Greener. Brighter. Better.

Working with Bulb was simply electric! Pun intended! But seriously, getting this campaign in and out the door was a lot of fun. Firstly, Bulb has such an undeniably cool style and we were very excited to bring the hand drawing to life. As with most of our projects, these units were produced with HTML5, CSS and JavaScript—NO VIDEO!

One of the main challenges we faced with this project was a quick turnaround. The client had only two weeks to put together the different creative routes you see below from concept, to design to production. Most production agencies would require twice that time to build out a banner campaign; however, by leveraging our overnight production services and making full use of our designer/developers, we were able to deliver the campaign on time.

Another challenge we faced with this project was small filesize given to us by the media agency. As many people in the industry might know, since the death of Flash, media agencies will sometimes offer file size limits that are less than adequate for the task and that was this case for this campaign. The initial specs given to us from the media agency only allowed for 40KB, which is a pittance when working with HTML5. While we managed to help our client secure a more robust 150KB, creating realistic video-like animations on that file size budget was not easy. By cleverly merging different assets, and taking advantage of products like tinyPNG and Kraken.io, we are happy to say all units are low on file size and high on impact!

Be Bold

One of the winning aspects of the Bulb brand is it’s bold use of colour and instantly recognizable style. As animators, our job was to bring this style to life, without sacrificing the simplicity of the brand and we did just that.
