Raise a Heineken to Video & HTML5 Integration
Heineken is one of our favourite brands to work with, both because they have such great creatives and because they have such high standards. For this rich media campaign, we were commissioned to seamlessly integrate HTML5 with video.
A quick word on how HTML5 and video integration works in banners. It is entirely possible to repurpose a social media video and with very little production effort, shoehorn that video into a digital display banner. The result, as you can imagine, is poor. See our page on video here for more information on why that is. Since Heineken has such high standards, you can bet that instead of shoehorning a video into a banner placement, they took the time and the effort to ensure that only a portion of their display unit was video. In the units below, the language translations are produced with PNGs, CSS and JavaScript, not video. The end result is a banner that is low file size, high quality, and consistent with their social media content.
Translation Shmlanslation!
Translation for banners can actually be a lot more difficult that it looks. Often times, text that fits perfectly when written in English can run miles off the page when written in German, for example. Our advice is to always design with different translations in mind—the shortest character count to the longest. We always suggest designers and creatives leave room in the creative concept for extra frames to be added to the unit or allow for text to be reduced in size.
